Tattoo Guide

Basics

In Lineage 2, each class has basic stats that can be modified with tattoos.

tatoo l2

Tattoos allow you to increase certain character parameters by reducing other, less important ones. It is necessary to optimize stats for various purposes, such as playing in groups of different profiles, hunting monsters, PvP battles, and competitions at the Olympiad.

You can find guides and gameplay videos from other players on platforms like YouTube. Keep in mind that their tattoo recommendations may differ from ours. If you copy tattoos without matching experience or in-game conditions, you may not achieve the same results. When learning from others, remember this: there are no universally "correct" tattoos — only ones that fit the specific game situation.

Evaluate your playstyle based on key points - damage output, skills, survivability, and gameplay needs. The answers to these questions will give you an understanding of which dyes will suit your character and playstyle.

This guide is intended to introduce you to the basic mechanics of how tattoos affect different classes.

We reserve the right for you to decide which dyes are needed for a particular class.

Dyes from store

Dye Merchant l2

You can buy simple and cheap dyes from Tattoo Merchants in towns. You can find them in the Magic Shop.

Low-quality dyes are available from merchants in all towns — they exchange character attribute points unequally and can be the following types::

To install a tattoo, you will need 10 dyes.

For some classes, losing extra attribute points is unforgivable — it can seriously affect the character's combat effectiveness.

You can use such dyes, but only as a last resort. It is better to save up and buy better dyes.

Dyes of Mammon

Merchant of Mammon l2

Dwarf Merchant of Mammon appears in the Catacombs during the victory of the Seven Seals week. For Ancient Adena Ancient Adena NG you can buy Greater Dyes:

To install a tattoo you will need 10 dyes.

Greater Dyes allow for an equal exchange of stat points, making them highly valuable but hard to acquire. Aside from purchasing them from the Mammon Merchant, players can obtain Greater Dyes as trophies by defeating monsters and Raid Bosses within levels 30-50. They can also be spoiled from certain monsters, adding a challenge to acquiring these items.

Installation and removal

Characters level 20+ who have not yet received their first profession can install 1 tattoo using Common Dye.

Characters level 20+ who have received their first profession can install 2 tattoos using Common Dye.

Dyes for characters with the first profession are not considered in the guide due to their irrelevance.

Characters over level 40 who have acquired a second profession can install 3 tattoos using Greater or Special Dye. Tattoos installed before acquiring a second profession will become inactive and must be removed.

Symbol Maker l2

To install your tattoo, visit a Tattoo Master. You can find them at the Magic Shop in Giran and Gludin or at the Grocery Shop in major towns. The installation cost will vary based on the type and value of the Dye you choose.

  • To install a tattoo, select line 1 — Draw a symbol
  • To delete a tattoo, select line 3 — Delete a symbol

Pay attention!

Adena is required to remove tattoos.

When using Greater Dyes purchased from the town store or the Merchant of Mammon, keep in mind that after removing the tattoo, you will only receive 5 dye bottles back, regardless of the original amount used.

When removing Butler's Special Dye, you will only receive 1 dye bottle back.

With the help of a tattoo, any attribute can be reduced by an unlimited amount, but it can only be increased by a maximum of 5 points..

Physical Classes

To increase damage, all physical classes, excluding Daggers, must increase the STR.

The damage of the Daggers depends on the Blow/Stab skills, which are affected by the DEX.

Once you've decided which stat you want to improve, it's important to understand what you're willing to sacrifice:

  • +STR -CON — survival rate decreases, mobility is maintained
  • +STR -DEX — mobility is reduced, survival is maintained

To make the right choice, it is important to understand how you deal primary damage:

  • Skill damage is more often affected by Skill Cooldown rather than Attack Speed, meaning CON is more important than DEX
  • Normal attack damage is affected by Attack Speed, as well as Critical Rate and the ability to be in a certain position relative to the target, which means DEX is more important than CON

Once you've chosen your primary stat, you'll have one free tattoo slot remaining. What should you fill it with? To make this decision, it's crucial to determine if your class has any skills that depend on Cast Speed.

There are no "correct" tattoos, there are tattoos that are appropriate for the game situation.

Evaluate your playstyle based on key points - damage output, skills, survivability, and gameplay needs. The answers to these questions will give you an understanding of which dyes will suit your character and playstyle.

Now that we have covered the basic principles of choosing tattoos, let's examine the classes/archetypes individually.

Gladiator

To pick the right tattoo for Gladiator, we will make a list of the main stats of the class:

  • Physical class, main stat is STR
  • Deals basic damage with skills, affected by Skill Cooldown
  • Skill Critical Rate depends on STR
  • Has skills that reduce distance, which means movement speed is not a priority
  • There are no skills among the main skills that depend on Cast. Spd.

From this, we conclude that the basic tattoo for Gladiator: STR+4 DEX-4. The remaining tattoo slots should be used according to your playstyle:

Do you have enough survivability?
No, there is not enough survivability Yes, there is enough survivability
Is survivability more important than mobility? Is there excess survivability?

Warlord, Tyrant

To pick the right tattoo for Warlord and Tyrant, we will make a list of the main stats of the class:

  • Physical class, main stat is STR
  • Deals basic damage with both skills and auto-attack
  • Skill Critical Rate depends on STR
  • There are no skills among the main skills that depend on Cast. Spd.

From this we conclude that tattoos should be chosen depending on the playstyle:

Main damage from skills Main damage from auto-attack
etc_str_hena_i02 STR+4 DEX-4
etc_str_hena_i02 STR+1 DEX-1
The third slot is empty
etc_str_hena_i02 STR+4 CON-4

Destroyer

To pick the right tattoo for Destroyer, we will make a list of the main stats of the class:

  • Physical class, main stat is STR
  • Deals basic damage with skills, affected by Skill Cooldown
  • Skill Critical Rate depends on STR
  • Has a large reserve of survivability, which can be sacrificed in favor of (what?)
  • There are no skills among the main skills that depend on Cast. Spd.

In Interlude Chronicles, skill cooldowns were tied to attack speed. However, this mechanic was removed in Gracia. Starting with Gracia — and at any point during the season on Masterwork — the DEX tattoo that boosts attack speed becomes irrelevant, as it no longer affects skill cooldowns.

When choosing a DEX+4 CON-4 tattoo, you must be aware of the benefits and harm it will bring to your character. We strongly recommend consulting with your group's healer to determine whether this tattoo is acceptable or will deprive your character of the necessary survivability.

From this, we conclude that the basic tattoo for Destroyer: STR+4 CON-4. The remaining tattoo slots should be used according to your playstyle:

Main tattoo With the healer's permission
etc_str_hena_i02 STR+4 CON-4
etc_str_hena_i02 STR+1 CON-1
The third slot is empty
etc_str_hena_i02 STR+4 CON-4

Berserker

To pick the right tattoo for Berserker, we will make a list of the main stats of the class:

  • Physical class, main stat is STR
  • Deals primary damage with skills
  • On Masterwork can deal critical damage with skills, Skill Critical Rate depends on STR
  • Low base survivability, CON reduction is not recommended
  • There are skills to close the distance. You can harmlessly sacrifice DEX in favour of STR
  • Among the main skills, some skills depend on Cast. Spd., so it is necessary to increase the WIT characteristic

Based on the information collected, we recommend the optimal set of tattoos for Berserker for beginners:

  • etc_str_hena_i02 STR+4 DEX-4
  • etc_str_hena_i02 STR+1 DEX-1
  • etc_wit_hena_i02 WIT+4 INT-4

As you play, you can change your tattoos to ones that better suit your playing style.

Soul Breaker

Soul Breaker can be a universal unit or choose a more specialized playstyle — warrior, mage or debuffer. We do not recommend this class for beginners.

To decide on the choice of tattoo for SB, we will make a list of the main stats of the class:

  • If you prefer to deal physical damage with a rapier, you must raise the STR
  • If you prefer dealing magic damage with skills and playing in a magic group, you must raise the CON
  • If you play a support role, controlling opponents, we recommend increasing the DEX
  • Among the main skills of the class, some skills depend on Cast. Spd.

From this, we conclude that the basic tattoo for Soul Breaker: WIT+4 INT-4. The remaining tattoo slots should be used according to your playstyle:

etc_con_hena_i02 CON+4 STR-4

Steal*. Soul Breaker is the only class that can "steal" other characters' buffs, including unique class buffs. That allows you to "accumulate" other characters' effects and deal situational damage, but at the same time, it requires a lot of experience and serious preparation.

eSports*. Recommended for members of organized groups who outside the party act as a support, controlling opponents in PvP.

Tanks

  • Paladin
  • Dark Avenger
  • Temple Knight
  • Shillien Knight

To pick the right tattoo for Tanks, we will make a list of the main stats of the class:

  • Physical class, main stat is STR
  • Has excess CON that can be sacrificed to DEX for increased mobility and Shield Block Chance
  • Among the main skills there are skills that depend on Cast. Spd., so it is necessary to increase the WIT

At different points in the game, various tanks can equally well protect the group and deal damage.

From this, we conclude that the basic tattoo for Tanks: WIT+4 INT-4. The remaining tattoo slots should be used according to your playstyle:

Dealing damage Group support, enemy control

Bards, Inspector

  • Swordsinger
  • Bladedancer
  • Inspector

To pick the right tattoo for BD or SWS, we will make a list of the main stats of the class:

  • Physical class, main stat is STR
  • If you prefer to deal physical damage, you must increase your STR
  • If you prioritize protecting allies, boost your DEX stat to increase mobility
  • If you want to perform tank functions, increase the CON stat
  • Among the main skills, some skills depend on Cast. Spd., so it is necessary to increase the WIT characteristic

Combined bard rhythms and universal sorcerer buffs allow for a full range of stimulating effects regardless of the group type. That allows bards to play different roles depending on the group composition.

From this, we conclude that the basic tattoo for Bards: +4 WIT -4 INT. The remaining tattoo slots should be used according to your playstyle:

Bard warrior Versatile Bard Tanking Bard
etc_str_hena_i02 STR+4 CON-4
etc_wit_hena_i02 WIT+4 INT-4
Optional:

Assassins

  • Treasure Hunter
  • Plains Walker
  • Abyss Walker

To pick the right tattoo for Assassin, we will make a list of the main stats of the class:

  • Main damage from Blow/Stab skills, they are affected by the DEX stat
  • Critical Rate for Blow/Stab skills depends on DEX stat
  • Skill damage is more often affected by Skill Cooldown rather than Attack Speed, meaning STR can be sacrificed in favor of CON
  • There are control skills that depend on Cast. Spd.

From this, we conclude that the basic tattoo for Assassins: +4 DEX -4 STR, +4 CON -4 STR. The remaining tattoo slots should be filled based on your play style:

Basic tattoos Alternative
Treasure Hunter Plains Walker
Abyss Walker
Treasure Hunter Plains Walker
Abyss Walker
etc_dex_hena_i02 DEX+4 STR-4
etc_con_hena_i02 CON+4 STR-4
Optional:
etc_dex_hena_i02 DEX+1 STR-1
etc_con_hena_i02 CON-1 STR-1
etc_dex_hena_i02 DEX+4 STR-4
etc_con_hena_i02 CON+4 STR-4
etc_wit_hena_i02 WIT+4 INT-4
etc_dex_hena_i02 DEX+4 CON-4
etc_str_hena_i02 STR+4 CON-4
Optional:
etc_dex_hena_i02 DEX+1 CON-1

etc_dex_hena_i02 DEX+4 CON-4
etc_str_hena_i02 STR+4 CON-4
etc_wit_hena_i02 WIT+4 INT-4

Pros of the alternative:

  • We recommend considering the alternative only after obtaining the Skill Mastery skill
  • At level 77 appears the passive skill Skill Mastery Skill Mastery Lv. 1 , which allows you to use the skill again without a cooldown. The chance of the triggering depends on the STR
  • Boosted damage from basic attacks and skills that allow farming any content — from trains to raid bosses

Cons of the alternative:

  • Due to the close attack range and low survivability, success in combat depends only on Evasion

Pay attention!

There are no "correct" tattoos, there are tattoos that are appropriate for the game situation.

Evaluate your playstyle based on key points - damage output, skills, survivability, and gameplay needs. The answers to these questions will give you an understanding of which dyes will suit your character and playstyle.

Archers

  • Hawkeye
  • Silver Ranger
  • Phantom Ranger

To pick the right tattoo for Archers, we will make a list of the main stats of the class:

  • Physical class, main stat is STR
  • Skill Critical Rate depends on STR
  • Many classes in the archetype have high mobility and are less dependent on DEX
  • Many classes have skills among their core skills that depend on Cast. Spd.

From this, we conclude that the basic tattoo for all Archers: +4 STR -4 CON, for all, except Hawkeye: +4 WIT -4 INT. The remaining tattoos are based on your play style:

  • Hawkeye has excess survivability that can be sacrificed for mobility
  • Hawkeye has no major abilities that rely on Cast. Spd.
  • Silver Ranger has low survivability but high mobility. Increasing DEX at the expense of CON is not rational
  • Phantom Ranger has low survivability. Trading CON for DEX will hurt more than it helps
  • Arbalester has high mobility and shooting speed. Increasing DEX at the expense of CON is irrational
  • The eSports game provides unique conditions for character enhancement

To participate in the Grand Olympiad battles, we recommend increasing survivability (CON) and mobility (DEX).

Dwarves

  • Bounty Hunter
  • Warsmith

To pick the right tattoo for Bounty Hunter and Warsmith, we will make a list of the main stats of the class:

  • Physical class, main stat is STR
  • Deals basic damage with both skills and auto attacks
  • Skill Critical Rate depends on STR
  • Low mobility, it is not recommended to reduce the DEX
  • There are no skills among the main skills that depend on Cast. Spd.

Due to the new skills, the Masterwork Bounty Hunter can be played as a dagger and a warrior (i.e. Destroyer). In this case, you will need the appropriate tattoos.

Playing as a Bounty Hunter and Warsmith as a primary class can have many variations, and depending on the play style, each of them requires a unique set of tattoos. If your dwarf is used only for material gathering, then the standard combinations of tattoos will do:
